Course Overview:
The Diver Medic Technician (DMT) certification offered at CDA is an ADAS approved certification and is divided into two categories; Onshore DMT Qualification and Offshore DMT Qualification, depending on the student’s level of diving qualification upon graduation.
This course is a great addition to any part 3 diver preparing themselves for work offshore, alongside a LST Cert. This course will help build upon the divers knowledge and ability to work offshore. This Course introduces students to high level first aid skills, including intubations, suturing, IV and drugs in hyperbaric environments.
The DMT course is available in four different delivery modes:
Onshore DMT – Initial course for divers who are onshore (Part 1 or 2) or restricted Part 3 divers.
Offshore DMT – Initial course for divers who hold an ADAS Part 3, Part 4 or Life Support Technician, or equivalent, qualifications.
Onshore DMT Refresher – Refresher course for existing DMT certification holders who are on shore (Part 1 or 2) or restricted Part 3 divers and meet the refresher criteria below.
Offshore DMT Refresher – Refresher course for existing DMT certification holders who hold an ADAS Part 3, Part 4 or Life Support Technician, or equivalent, qualification and meet the refresher criteria below.
Offshore DMT – This course results in the completion of the following Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification: Certificate IV in Hyperbaric Operations (Diver medical technician) National Qualification Code 11006NAT
Onshore DMT– This course results in a partial completion of the following Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification: Certificate IV in Hyperbaric Operations (Diver medical technician) National Qualification Code 11006NAT
Student Prerequisites:
- Students are required to hold a Diver Medic Certificate OR a current First Aid Certificate. CPR and Oxygen resuscitation skills are required to be refreshed within 12 months prior to concluding in the course.
- Students are required to hold a valid certificate of medical fitness to dive.
Job Opportunities
The Diver Medic Technician is a compulsory part of any dive team, hence why a DMT Cert is a great addition for any part 3 diver, if your intent is working offshore in the oil and gas industry. When combined with the ALST or LST course these industry recognised ADAS qualifications give a new commercial diver the very best chance of gaining your first job in the offshore industry.
Because DMT’s are so valuable, it is not uncommon for companies to hire exclusively DMT trained individuals, on a normal work day, the life of a DMT is no different than that of a normal diver, a DMT is not hired as a DMT but instead hired as a diver, who in emergency can act as a first responder until a hyperbaric doctor is able to take over.
